Mino-yaki tradition
Mino-yaki, Japan’s most widely produced ceramic tradition, originates from Gifu Prefecture and dates back over 1,300 years. Evolving through the influence of Chinese and Korean pottery, it flourished during the Momoyama period (16th century), when styles like Oribe, Shino, and Ki-Seto emerged. Known for its versatility, Mino-yaki encompasses a range of glazes and textures, from rustic, earthy finishes to refined, elegant forms, making it a staple in both everyday tableware and tea ceremony vessels.
