Tea Story

Lapsang Souchong is one of the oldest black teas exported from China and one of the most recognizable tea styles in the world. It originates in the Wuyi region of Fujian Province, where tea has been cultivated for centuries among forested mountain terrain and rocky soils.

The name Xiao Zhong traditionally refers to a style made from larger, more mature leaves. What made this tea famous was the final drying stage: leaves were placed above pinewood fires, allowing warm smoke to pass through and settle into the tea.

This method likely developed as a practical solution during busy harvest seasons, when faster drying was needed. Over time, it became a signature style prized for its boldness and ability to travel well during long export journeys.

Today, smoked Lapsang Souchong remains unique among black teas — less about delicacy, more about character. It is often loved by whisky drinkers, cigar enthusiasts, and anyone drawn to deeper, fire-kissed flavors.
