Tea Story

In the mountains of Anhua, in between forested slopes, tea is often shaped as much by aesthetics as by taste. Song Zhen — 'pine needle' — takes its name from the long, slender form of the finished leaves, carefully rolled to resemble the needles of surrounding pine trees.

The process begins with early spring harvest, when the leaves are still tender and rich in aroma. After picking, they are quickly heated to halt oxidation, preserving their green character. While still soft, the leaves are rolled by hand into thin, straight strands — a step that requires precision and patience. Too much pressure, and the leaf breaks; too little, and the shape is lost.

As the tea dries, it holds this needle-like form, both practical and symbolic. When brewed, the leaves slowly unfurl, releasing a steady, clean infusion — nothing abrupt, nothing overpowering. The character remains focused: fresh, green, and quietly structured.
