About

Osmanthus flowers are small enough to disappear among the leaves, though their fragrance travels far. In southern China, they bloom around early autumn and are used to scent tea, rice wine and sweets. Their aroma is often compared with ripe apricot, peach and honey.

This cup carries the flower as a visual motif rather than a fragrance. The small blossoms bring warmth and movement to the ceramic surface, while the open shape remains simple enough for regular use. It pairs especially naturally with floral oolongs, though the cup can be used across the full tea collection.

The cup is made in Dehua, in Fujian Province, southeastern China. Ceramics have been produced there for centuries, and the region is particularly associated with pale clay bodies and smoothly finished tea wares. The individual maker is not specified.

At 100 ml, the cup is larger than a very small tasting cup but still suited to gongfu preparation. Tea can be poured directly from a gaiwan or teapot, or first gathered in a fairness pitcher so that the flavour is even before serving. The same leaves can then return to the water, with each infusion bringing a slightly different aroma and texture.

Use & Care

How to Use

Warm the cup with hot water, then empty it before serving tea.

Use with a gaiwan, small teapot or fairness pitcher. The 100 ml capacity works well for a personal gongfu serving and for teas brewed through several short infusions.

How to Care

Rinse shortly after use and wash gently with mild dish soap and a soft sponge.

Hand washing is recommended. Avoid abrasive cleaners, direct heat and sudden temperature changes. Allow the cup to dry completely before storing.
