Tea Story

Meng Ding Gan Lu (蒙顶甘露), meaning "Sweet Dew from Mengding Mountain," is regarded as one of China's oldest named teas, with a history stretching back more than two thousand years. According to Chinese tea tradition, the first cultivated tea bushes were planted on Mengding Mountain in Sichuan during the Western Han Dynasty by the scholar-monk Wu Lizhen, making this region one of the birthplaces of cultivated tea.

The mountain rises above the Sichuan Basin, where dense fog, abundant rainfall, and fertile soils create an ideal environment for slow-growing spring leaves. The persistent mist filters sunlight, allowing the tea bushes to develop exceptional tenderness and a naturally high concentration of amino acids.

Sweet Dew is harvested only in early spring, when the buds and first young leaves are still covered with fine down. After picking, the leaves are carefully pan-fired by hand and gently shaped through repeated rolling and drying. Unlike many modern green teas, the emphasis is on preserving softness and elegance rather than producing bold vegetal flavours.

The result is a tea known for remarkable balance — fresh without sharpness, sweet without heaviness, and refined enough to reveal new nuances across multiple infusions.
