Tea Story

Yellow tea is one of the least produced categories in China. It sits close to green tea in processing, but with one crucial difference — a step known as menhuang, or 'sealing yellow'.

After the leaves are heated to stop oxidation, they are wrapped or piled while still warm. Over hours, sometimes days, trapped moisture and residual heat create a mild, controlled transformation. The sharp, grassy edges typical of green tea soften, and the flavor becomes rounder, quieter.

'Yellow Buds' refers to teas made almost entirely from early spring buds. These are picked when the plant has just begun its seasonal growth, carrying concentrated sugars and amino acids. The result is a tea that is less about brightness and more about texture — smooth, slightly creamy, and steady.

Because the process is delicate and time-consuming, yellow tea has remained rare, often produced in small batches and consumed locally.
