About

This kyusu is made by Takasuke Kiln, a Tokoname pottery studio known for Japanese teapots designed with both beauty and function in mind. The artist behind this piece is Hiroshi Kita, the second-generation maker of the kiln, who trained in ceramics in Kyoto before returning to Tokoname.

Tokoname is one of Japan’s historic ceramic regions, especially known for kyusu — side-handled teapots made for Japanese green tea. This teapot follows that tradition in a clean, practical form: a rounded body, a comfortable side handle, and a ceramic mesh strainer built directly into the pot.

The ceramic strainer is especially suitable for Japanese tea leaves. It holds back the leaf while allowing the infusion to pour smoothly, making it useful for sencha, kabusecha and gyokuro.

The 250 ml size is ideal for one or two people, especially when brewing tea in smaller, more concentrated infusions.

This is a teapot for teas that deserve attention: shaded greens with deep umami, fresh sencha with clear sweetness, or gyokuro brewed slowly at a lower temperature. A calm, serious everyday tool — made for tea drinkers who want the vessel to support the taste of the tea.

Use & Care

How to Use

temperature for your tea and let it steep.

For sencha, use cooler water than boiling and a short infusion. For kabusecha and gyokuro, use even cooler water and allow the tea to open slowly, bringing out sweetness and umami.

Pour the tea fully after each infusion so the leaves do not continue steeping in the pot. The same leaves can be brewed several times, with small changes in time and water temperature.

How to Care

Rinse with warm water after use. Hand wash recommended.
Avoid strong dish soap, as clay can absorb aromas.
Do not use abrasive sponges or metal brushes.
Do not place on direct flame, in the oven, or under the grill.
Avoid sudden extreme temperature changes.
Leave the lid off while drying so the inside can dry completely.
Store only when fully dry.
