About

This cup comes from Hasami, a pottery town in Nagasaki, in the south of Japan. Porcelain has been made there for more than four centuries, much of it created for ordinary homes: cups, bowls and plates designed to be used often rather than saved for special occasions. Saikai Ceramics continues that practical tradition through simple shapes made for contemporary tables.

The decoration is almost easy to miss at first. A few pale leaves and small blue flowers sit lightly against the white surface, leaving most of the porcelain open. As the cup turns in the hand, another stem or petal comes into view. The pattern feels quiet and personal, like something noticed slowly rather than shown all at once.

The white interior also has a practical purpose. It leaves the colour of the tea unchanged, making it easier to see the pale green of sencha, the gold of white tea or the deeper amber of hojicha and black tea.

At 175 ml, the cup holds a generous everyday serving without feeling oversized. The rounded body sits naturally between the palms, bringing the warmth of the tea into the hands. It is the kind of cup that becomes familiar quickly — chosen in the morning, returned to the shelf, then reached for again the next day.

Use & Care

How to Use

Use for Japanese green tea, white tea, oolong, black tea or herbal infusions. The white porcelain is especially useful when you want to notice the clarity and colour of the brewed tea.

Its rounded 175 ml shape works well for tea poured from a kyusu or small teapot, as well as for a single everyday serving.
