    About

    This kyusu is made by Jinsui Kiln, a ceramics studio from Tokoname, Aichi — one of Japan’s most important regions for kyusu teapots. Yunomi describes Jinsui as one of the six oldest studios in the Tokoname ceramic production region.

    The name Jinsui combines the characters for “person” and “water,” reflecting the idea that human life and culture have always grown around water. For a teapot maker, this feels especially fitting: clay, water, leaves, heat, and the small daily act of pouring tea.

    This model is called Shirohai, part of the IROIRO series. Its gray clay has a restrained, mineral feeling — soft, modern, and easy to pair with almost any tea table. Gray Tokoname clay becomes denser when fired, with smaller pores than black clay. This means it absorbs less of the tea’s flavour, allowing more of the tea’s original character to come through in the cup.

    The built-in ceramic mesh strainer is designed for loose leaf tea and is especially useful for Japanese green teas. It helps hold back the leaves while keeping the pour smooth and direct. The 290 ml size is generous enough for two people, or for one slow tea session with several small cups.

    A kyusu like this is made for teas with nuance: fresh sencha, shaded kabusecha, deep gyokuro, roasted hojicha, or any Japanese tea where clarity, sweetness and texture matter.

    Use & Care

    How to Use

    Add Japanese green tea leaves directly into the kyusu. Pour in water at the right temperature for your tea and let it steep.

    For sencha, use cooler water than boiling and a short infusion. For kabusecha and gyokuro, use even cooler water and a slower infusion to bring out sweetness and umami.

    Pour the tea fully after each infusion so the leaves do not continue steeping in the pot. The same leaves can be brewed several times, with small changes in time and water temperature.

    How to Care

    Hand wash only.
    Rinse with warm water after use.
    Avoid strong dish soap, as unglazed or semi-porous ceramic can absorb aromas.
    Do not use in the dishwasher.
    Do not use in the microwave.
    Do not use abrasive sponges or metal brushes.
    Do not place on direct flame, in the oven, or under the grill.
    Avoid sudden extreme temperature changes.
    Leave the lid off while drying so the inside can dry completely.
    Store only when fully dry.
