White Bamboo Chashaku | matcha scoop

Slender bamboo scoop that gives matcha preparation its first deliberate gesture. Its shallow curve lifts the fine powder cleanly from the tin and carries it into the bowl without the weight or coldness of metal. Pale, light and almost weightless in the hand.

About

Before the water is poured or the whisk begins to move, matcha passes through the chashaku. This narrow bamboo scoop is used to take powdered tea from its container and place it inside the bowl, turning a small amount of powder into something measured and intentional.

The form has been refined around this single movement. A long handle keeps the fingers away from the matcha, while the softly bent tip gathers the powder without pressing it down. Its curve also makes it easier to release the matcha into the bowl with a gentle tap.

White bamboo gives the scoop a clean, understated appearance. The natural grain remains visible, and slight differences in tone make each piece feel a little less uniform. Beside a ceramic bowl and a dark tea tin, it is one of the lightest elements on the tray — both visually and physically.

At only three grams, the chashaku is almost imperceptible in the hand. Its usefulness comes from repetition: opening the matcha, taking the first scoop, levelling the amount by eye, and returning the tool to its place. Over time, this small beginning becomes part of the rhythm of making tea.

Use & Care

How to Use

Use the curved end to lift matcha from its container and transfer it into a dry matcha bowl. Add the number of scoops recommended for the matcha preparation you are following, then return the chashaku to a clean, dry surface before adding water.

The scoop can also be used to gently press matcha through a fine sifter. Avoid using excessive force, as the bamboo is slender and naturally flexible.

How to Care

Wipe away remaining matcha with a clean, dry cloth after use. When washing is necessary, rinse briefly by hand and dry immediately.

Do not soak the scoop, place it in the dishwasher or leave it resting in water. Avoid harsh soap, abrasive sponges and prolonged exposure to heat or direct sunlight, as these may dry, stain or distort the bamboo. Store only when completely dry.
