About

Japanese teacups are often made without handles. The shape brings both hands close to the vessel, making the warmth of the tea part of the experience and helping you judge when it is ready to drink.

Dark Samurai takes this familiar form into a deeper, more tactile direction. The ceramic body is deliberately coarse, with a matte surface that keeps the grain of the material visible. Light settles across its ridges and small irregularities rather than reflecting from a polished finish.

The dark interior changes the way tea appears in the cup. Pale green and golden infusions stand out clearly against it, while darker teas become quieter and more tonal. The contrast draws attention to the surface of the liquor, the steam and the first movement of the pour.

The name Dark Samurai describes the cup’s restrained visual character rather than a particular historical ceramic style. Its presence comes from material, weight and texture, leaving it easy to place beside a small teapot, a gaiwan or other simple tableware.

Use & Care

How to Use

Warm the cup with hot water, then empty it before adding brewed tea. Hold it around the sides, allowing the temperature of the ceramic to guide when the tea is comfortable to drink.

Use with green tea, oolong, white tea, black tea, puerh or herbal infusions poured from a teapot or gaiwan.

How to Care

Rinse shortly after use and wash gently by hand with mild dish soap and a soft sponge.

Avoid abrasive cleaners or metal brushes, which may mark the matte surface. Dishwasher and microwave suitability have not been confirmed. Do not place over direct heat or in the oven. Avoid sudden temperature changes and dry well before storing.
