        About

This shiboridashi is made by Isobe Ceramics in the Tokoname-yaki tradition of Aichi Prefecture, one of Japan’s historic ceramic regions known for teapots and tea vessels.

A shiboridashi is a handleless Japanese teapot used for very small, concentrated infusions. Unlike a standard kyusu, it usually has no built-in mesh strainer. Instead, the lid is used to gently hold back the leaves while the tea is poured. This gives the vessel a very direct, quiet feeling — just clay, leaves, water and the movement of the hand.

The 60 ml size is especially suited to high-grade Japanese green tea. For gyokuro and kabusecha, where the best flavour comes from cooler water and a slow, rich extraction, a small vessel helps concentrate sweetness, umami and texture. It also encourages a slower rhythm: a little water, a short pour, a small cup, then another infusion.

The ceramic is unglazed, which gives the piece a natural, tactile surface. Over time, unglazed teaware can slowly develop more character through use, becoming part of your tea practice rather than staying perfectly unchanged.

A small and serious vessel for people who love Japanese tea deeply — especially shaded teas, careful brewing and quiet tasting sessions.

        Use & Care

        How to Use

Add Japanese green tea leaves directly into the shiboridashi. Pour in a small amount of water at the right temperature for your tea.

For gyokuro and kabusecha, use cooler water and allow the tea to open slowly, bringing out sweetness, umami and a rich texture. For high-grade sencha, use slightly warmer water and a shorter infusion.

To pour, hold the lid slightly tilted so it keeps the leaves inside while the tea flows out. Pour fully after each infusion so the leaves do not continue steeping.

The same leaves can be brewed several times, with small changes in time and water temperature.

        How to Care

Rinse with warm water after use.
        Hand wash only.
Avoid strong dish soap, as unglazed ceramic can absorb aromas.
Do not use in the dishwasher.
Do not use in the microwave.
Do not use abrasive sponges or metal brushes.
Do not place on direct flame, in the oven, or under the grill.
        Avoid sudden extreme temperature changes.
Leave the lid off while drying so the inside can dry completely.
        Store only when fully dry.
