Peach Blossom Ceramic Gongfu Teacup

A small ceramic cup made for Chinese gongfu tea, decorated with delicate peach blossom branches. Its rounded, handleless shape sits comfortably in the hand, while the 100 ml capacity works well for tea poured from a gaiwan or fairness pitcher through several short infusions.

About

In gongfu brewing, tea is prepared in a small teapot or gaiwan and returned to several times. Each infusion is poured out completely before the leaves are brewed again. The cups are usually handleless and relatively small, keeping the tea close enough to notice its aroma, temperature and changing texture.

This cup comes from Dehua, a ceramic region in Fujian Province, southeastern China. Dehua is known for pale, finely finished ceramics made for both household use and the tea table. The individual workshop behind this piece is not specified, but its simple rounded form belongs naturally to that tradition of useful, light tableware.

Peach blossom branches move across the surface of the cup, bringing a seasonal detail to an otherwise practical shape. In Chinese painting and decorative arts, peach blossom is closely connected with spring and renewal. Here, the motif gives the cup character without taking attention away from the tea itself.

The 100 ml capacity is generous for a gongfu cup. It can hold a personal serving poured directly from a gaiwan, or receive part of an infusion shared from a fairness pitcher. The smooth ceramic surface makes it suitable for many styles of tea, from fragrant oolong and Chinese green tea to black tea, white tea and puerh.

Use & Care

How to Use

Warm the cup with hot water, then empty it before serving tea.

Pour from a gaiwan, small teapot or fairness pitcher. Its 100 ml size works well for one personal serving or for dividing a larger infusion between several cups.

How to Care

Rinse shortly after use and wash gently with mild dish soap and a soft sponge.

Hand washing is recommended. Avoid abrasive cleaners, direct heat and sudden temperature changes. Allow the cup to dry completely before storing.
